Student Case Study: ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management
The reason I joined the ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management course was because I had been a head nurse for three years with no training or previous experience in this role. I loved the new challenges that came with being a head nurse and I wanted to learn new ways I could improve and challenge myself within this role. This course has taught me how to make the most of myself as a head nurse as well as help guide my team to do their best.
I chose to do this course at the College of Animal Welfare because I would be able to relate my leadership role to the veterinary environment instead of an office one. During the study days I enjoyed meeting up with like-minded people and networking. I found it manageable to study and complete the assignments by the deadline, alongside working and looking after my child. The tutors are very knowledgeable and have supported me throughout this course and are always available for advice if needed.
I have learnt so much on this course from the use of SMART targets and monitoring objectives, to managing conflict in the workplace and looking into different leadership styles. For me the most valuable thing I have learnt is about the recruitment process. This was something I had never experienced before, but it was one of my career goals. After learning about recruitment on the study days I was lucky enough to be given the responsibility to recruit a new member of the team. This was something I would have never been able to do if it wasn’t for this course. This course has given me the confidence and knowledge to progress forward to try and be the best I can for my team.
