Overview

Awarded by City & Guilds, the Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Business Administration is designed for experienced senior administrators who hold management responsibilities and play a role in decision-making within their organisation. This qualification builds on your existing expertise, enhancing your business, managerial, and advanced administrative skills so you can contribute more strategically to organisational success.

Aimed at those already working in, or preparing to move into, a management-level role (such as Office Manager or Administration Team Leader), the course supports the development of leadership capability and business support at a higher level.

By completing this business administration qualification, you’ll strengthen your ability to manage people, processes, and resources while supporting wider business goals and driving improvements across your organisation.

Course details

What will you study?

This level 4 business administration course is made up of the following mandatory units:

  • Communicate in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development
  • Manage the work of an administrative function
  • Resolve administrative problems

In addition to the mandatory units, you will choose from a range of optional units to tailor the qualification to your job role and career goals. Examples of optional units include:

  • Initiate and implement operational change
  • Manage events
  • Manage conflict within a team
  • Recruitment, selection and induction practice
  • Conduct quality audits
  • Manage a project
  • Champion customer service

You will not be required to attend college, your tuition will be provided online, and you will be supported by a personal tutor who will assess your work and provide feedback. Regular contact and support will be carried out by your tutor via email, telephone and Microsoft Teams.

Assessment

You will complete online examinations and a portfolio, and pass work-based practical assessments.

Start dates

Our online, distance learning courses can be started at any time. You will work through your online course materials at a time that is convenient to you and be supported by a personal tutor.

Entry requirements

In order to enrol onto this course you should have achieved a level 3 business administration qualification and be working in a senior administrative role.

Please note: As our courses include online learning components, students are required to have access to a PC or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

Fees and funding

Course Fees
£4,170 (or £2,085 at the start of the programme, and £2,085 at the start of year two)

Awarding Body Fees -£258

All students or employers are required to pay the awarding body fees in addition to the course fees. Please note that these are recharged at cost and may be subject to change.

CAW Loans2Learn
Course fees must be paid in full before the course begins. If you are unable to do so, we offer a personal loan scheme (Loans2Learn) that can help you to spread the cost into manageable monthly payments over a period of up to five years, subject to eligibility. It can be used to fully, or partially, cover your course fee (but does not cover any awarding body fees, such as enrolment and examination fees which are payable on top). If you have not achieved your qualification by the planned end date detailed in your individual learning plan, continued support and course access is available by paying monthly direct debit payments, or applying for a supplementary or increased loan, until certification is achieved.

These may be as a result of age, employment status, previous education achievements, or location for example, and are outside the control of CAW Business School (The College of Animal Welfare).

Administrative staff are in high demand in the public, private and charity sectors, meaning that your career prospects are wide ranging.

Yes, in order to do this course you need to be employed in a senior administrative role.

I am 18 years of age, is this course free?

No, as a private further education provider fees are applicable to all students. We do have a Loans2Learn scheme that can help you to spread the costs of study into manageable monthly payments.

Is this level 4 qualification equivalent to a degree?

A level 4 qualification is academically equivalent to a Higher National Certificate or Certificate of Higher Education. It demonstrates higher-level knowledge and skills, particularly in responsibility, problem-solving, and management within a business environment.
