I have recently completed a level 3 business administration apprenticeship while working as an administrator within a student services department. I started this course straight after secondary school as a way to pursue the first stage of my career. This apprenticeship gave me a fantastic opportunity to work in different departments, obtain a wide range of skills and experience whilst gaining further qualifications, as well as allowing me to gain hands on experience in an administrative environment.

One of the aspects I enjoyed most about the course was applying what I learnt directly to my day-to-day responsibilities. For example, units on communicating in a business environment, time management techniques, administrative support for meetings, personal and professional development all linked closely to my job role. Although I did sometimes find it challenging to manage assignment deadlines alongside a full‑time job, this experience taught me how to prioritise tasks effectively and maintain a good balance between study and work commitments.

In the future I want to continue developing my administrative career and hopefully one day take on an office management role. This apprenticeship has given me a great foundation of experience and skills to build on as well as a stepping stone for future opportunities.

If anyone is considering this course my advice would be to make the most of any opportunities to gain experience, ask questions and expand your knowledge. Apply your learning as much as possible to real workplace situations as practicing these skills will help you grow in confidence and develop both personally and professionally!
