Weighing up your options after receiving your A-Level results can be challenging, especially if your original plan is no longer feasible. If you don’t meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree course, or are questioning whether university is really the right path for you – why not consider an apprenticeship instead? Apprenticeships are a great way to bypass the massive debts that come attached to a university education, whilst still giving you the opportunity to earn money and develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in your chosen field. Being able to learn skills and earn money at the same time is a widely documented benefit of undertaking an apprenticeship, but others include:
Gaining a varied learning experience – A combination of direct experience in the workplace and home, online or college study means that apprenticeships offer a varied learning experience where no two days will be the same.
Networking and learning from industry professionals – As an apprentice you won’t be expected to know everything straight away; your colleagues will help you develop within the workplace and grow into your role, which is an opportunity to learn from professionals within your chosen industry.
Supporting business – Apprenticeships are forecast to contribute over £3bn by 2022; and it is estimated that the average apprentice improves business productivity by £214 per week. As such working as an apprentice means that you are helping to ensure real-life growth and productivity within the workplace and are contributing to the economy.
No matter what path you choose to take now, remember that new opportunities are never too far away, so you should remain focused and approach new challenges with positivity and determination.
