Build on your existing skills to gain greater administration and managerial skills

As a qualification that can be tailored to the needs of your job role, this apprenticeship programme is ideal for those who are working in an office environment who have a level of responsibility for developing the quality of the administration service.

As a business administration apprentice, you will be employed in an administrative role gaining vital practical skills and experience, and earning a wage alongside studying your formal apprenticeship qualification. At level three you will build upon your existing skills to gain greater technical and managerial skills, as well as supervising others and contributing more widely to your organisation or department.

As this apprenticeship is work-based, you may apply to start at any time of the year and will not be required to attend College for tuition. You will be allocated a Work-based Learning Assessor who will support you through your qualification via email and telephone contact and regular visits to your place of work.

Throughout this apprenticeship you will also achieve the City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration.

End Point Assessment

Knowledge Test

You will undertake an online multiple choice test at the end of your apprenticeship. This test will focus on general knowledge learnt during the apprenticeship and is not company-specific.

Portfolio-based Interview

During your apprenticeship, you will complete a portfolio of evidence; a selection of which will then be chosen to showcase your development. It is likely that evidence will include items such as customer feedback, witness statements, reviews and recording. A discussion will then take place by an independent assessor around the evidence within the portfolio.

Project Presentation

You will deliver a presentation on a project you have completed or on a process you have improved during the duration of your apprenticeship.

Functional Skills

You will undertake Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English unless exempt. These are assessed via online examinations and practical assessments.

For the City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration you will be assessed using a variety of methods including online examinations, a portoflio and work-based assessments.

Entry requirements

You will ideally have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, or have undertaken the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration. You will also need to be living and working in England in a suitable administration environment, within a 90 minute radius of our Huntingdon centre, earning at least the National Minimum Wage for Apprentices. To complete this apprenticeship within 18-24 months you will need to be working for a minimum of 30 hours per week, if you are working less than 30 hours a week the length of your apprenticeship will be extended depending on your working hours.

If you have a level 3 (or above) qualification in a similar subject you may not be able to undertake this apprenticeship, in which case you may wish to undertake the City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration as a standalone qualification.

Course fees

Apprenticeship fees are payable by the employer. Prior to commencing the course an invoice will be issued for the total course fee.

 Course Fees

The way apprenticeships are funded, and paid for, has now changed. Employers should take note of the fees that are applicable to their organisation. As an employer you will either be an Apprenticeship Levy Payer (employers with over a £3 million pay bill) or Non-Levy Payers (employers with less than a £3 million pay bill).

Employ an apprentice aged 16-18 and save over £1,000!

If you take on an apprentice under 19 years of age, you will receive a £1,000 incentive from the government towards the training fees! In addition, if your organisation has less than 50 contracted employees the course fees will be fully funded!

Course fees for Apprenticeship Levy Payers

Digital account payment – £5,000

Course fees for Non-Levy Payers

Course fees for Non-Levy Payers are paid via co-investment with the government, meaning that the government provide 95% of funding towards course fees.

Full fee payable by the employer as of 1 April 2019 – £250

All fees are fully inclusive of applicable awarding organisation and End Point Assessment (EPA) fees. However, if a student needs to re-sit an exam, re-sit fees will be payable.

Sources of financial help can be found on our student finance page. Before making any financial decision it is recommended that you seek advice from an independent source, for example the Money Advice Service.

These are current figures and may be subject to change. The differences in course fees reflect the level of funding that is available as a result of government policies and priorities. These may be as a result of age, employment status, previous education achievements, or location for example, and are outside the control of CAW Business School.

What next?

On completion of your apprenticeship you will have gained the knowledge, confidence and abilities to carry out more complex administrative tasks and supervise others to achieve wider objectives of your organisation. If you are not already working in a supervisory position, this may be something you consider if the opportunity arises. You may wish to consider undertaking the Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business and Professional Administration.

You may wish to look at a leadership and management, or coaching and mentoring qualification to further enhance your leadership skills.
