Awarded by VetSkill, this qualification will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work in roles where you’ll be providing information, advice or guidance on a daily basis.

Covering areas from communication to signposting and referral, those who complete the qualification will be fully equipped to provide information, advice and guidance in either a voluntary or professional role.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements for learners to undertake this qualification; however you must be either employed or volunteering a role where you are required to provide Information, Advice or Guidance.

Please note: As our courses include online learning components, students are required to have access to a PC or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

Course Content

Throughout the qualification the following units are undertaken:

Unit one – Introduction to Information, Advice or Guidance
This unit covers the differences between information, advice and guidance, understanding the purpose of accurate record keeping and meeting information, advice or guidance requirements for a range of clients; including knowing your own level of authority when doing this.

Unit two – Developing communication skills when providing Information, Advice or Guidance
Throughout this unit you will look at how best to communicate with a range of clients, how your own values beliefs and attitudes could affect your communication and the importance of confidentiality and equality when communicating with a range of clients.

Unit three – Client choices and potential barriers when providing Information, Advice and Guidance
After completing this unit you will understand how to explore choices and options available with a range of clients, the range of potential barriers which could stop clients from accessing information, advice or guidance and how clients can challenge discriminatory behaviour.

Unit four – Signposting and referral in Information, Advice and Guidance
This unit looks at understanding the difference between signposting and referral, as well as making sure you know good practice when signposting or referring a range of clients and how you should monitor and evaluate their progress.

Unit five – Providing Information, Advice or Guidance to clients
After completing unit five you will be able to comply with national requirements when providing information, advice or guidance. You will also be able to demonstrate providing information, advice and guidance in your sector, signposting and referring and the monitoring and evaluating of clients who are signposted or referred.

Assessment

Course assessment consists of completing a portfolio of evidence.

  • £995 - UK students.
  • £1,325 – Overseas students

Awarding Body Fees*: £55
these are payable by all students or employers and are recharged at cost and subject to change.

If you have not achieved your qualification by the planned end date detailed in your individual learning plan, continued support and course access is available by paying monthly direct debit payments, or applying for a supplementary or increased loan, until certification is achieved.

What Next?

After completing the VetSkill Level 2 Award in Information, Advice or Guidance you will be fully equipped to work in either a voluntary or professional role where you would be providing information, advice or guidance on a daily basis.

Should you want to push your knowledge even further, you might also want to consider undertaking an ILM awarded Leadership and Management or Coaching and Mentoring qualification. The completion of either of these courses would improve your confidence in coaching others and give you the opportunity to progress into a management role.
